Although oral surgery may sound invasive, sometimes this procedure is necessary for the safe removal of wisdom teeth.
Why do Wisdom teeth need to be removed?
- When there’s not enough room in the back of the mouth for the teeth to come through.
- The teeth are difficult to reach for cleaning which can lead to infection issues.
- When the teeth have become impacted, causing other teeth to move forward.
What does the procedure involve?
It all depends on your condition. If it’s a simple removal your dentist may be able to remove your wisdom teeth in-practice using a local anaesthetic or IV sedation. If your wisdom teeth are impacted, you may be referred to a specialist to have them removed under general anaesthetic.
If you’re concerned about the state of your wisdom teeth or they’re causing you discomfort, speak with your dentist who will advise you of your best option.
